Bonica Melbourne / Pretty Melbourne

No us ho negaré.

Us recomano Melbourne. I jo, amics meus, em dic tothom. El bitllet més barat de tram val $3.7!!! (2€)

No serà fàcil.

I can’t deny it. Melbourne is pretty. It makes me feel kinda like the man who cheats on his wife by saying that Melbourne might be more beautiful than Auckland. I lived there for so long that part of myself belongs to the kiwi city. However, if someone asks me which city I think is nicer, I may have to say that that’s Melbourne’s. It’s got almost everything I expect from a wonderful city! Wide streets, excellent public transport system, pedestrian friendly environment, lovely atmosphere… it’s hard to say, but today, while walking in Melbourne I felt kind of “wow, this is a really nice place to live”.

Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria and it’s got almost as many inhabitants as the whole New Zealand. However, the city doesn’t seem to be packed with people. Probably the fact that they need so much space for trams makes the streets so wide, at least that’s my feeling. I’m just talking about what I’ve seen of course, so the CBD and the walk along the Yarra river. And the city is promising!

Today it’s been the first day that I finally felt some heat. Good. Because so far I’ve been feeling cold every single day. It’s funny because when you wake up in the morning and see the sun shining, you feel like it must be hot outside, but it’s not. I blame Catalonia for that. Week and a half ago I was there and sun in the sky meant sweat in my armpits. Well, that is so much not happening here.

What can I say? I’d recommend you visit Melbourne. Really. But well, just so you don’t think I’m talking to good about the city, let me point out a couple of things I don’t like in here. First, the river is nice, but not that nice. The water could be blue, but it’s brown. It makes the city look dirtier than it actually is. The color of the rivers is one of this things that I’ll never understand but truth said, brown looks ugly. And second, this is an overpriced city. Maybe is the whole country, whatever, but Melbourne is not for everyone. I don’t think low cost tourism works here, everything is so expensive, the cheapest tram ride is $3.70!!! Nonsense.

Anyway, tomorrow Monday, time to start planning my life for the next three months. It’s not gonna be easy but whatever, I like challenges!
